Why We Chose Juice Fasting

Juicing has become an essential part of our lifestyle. As Nate says, “This is our life now – the juice, the juice!” We believe juice fasting not only helps detox your body but also provides the nutrients you need, including protein to keep up with workouts.

Ingredients (Makes Four 18oz Servings)

Fruits:

  • 5 apples

  • 4 oranges

  • 1 lemon

  • 1 large pineapple

Veggies:

  • 2 bunches of kale

  • Broccoli

  • 3 small turmeric roots

  • Fresh ginger

  • Celery

  • Cucumber

Oils & Supplements:

  • Hemp seed oil – 1 tbsp/person/day

  • MCT oil – 1 tbsp for 3 servings

  • Vitamin D3 drops – 5 drops per serving

Important note: Everything should be organic, y’all!

Why These Ingredients?

Kale & Broccoli – Natural Protein Powerhouses

Some people think juice fasting lacks protein – not true! Kale and broccoli are loaded with it. Spinach actually has more, but we love what kale and broccoli bring to the table. Each bottle packs around 17g of protein, enough for Nate to keep training strong during the fast.

Want to Know the Protein Breakdown?

Just Google it! Search something like “protein in 5 apples” or “protein in 1 bunch of kale” – Google will give you the answer fast.

Step-by-Step Juice Prep

Step 1: Wash Everything

Even if it's organic, wash it well! Especially leafy greens like kale – dirt and tiny bugs love to hide. You can use veggie wash or vinegar.

Step 2: Prep Your Fruits

  • Oranges & lemons: Peel them, but leave a little white pith – it’s packed with nutrients.

  • Apples & pineapples: Don’t forget to remove those stickers before cutting – I always forget!

Step 3: Chop Everything

I’ll be real with y’all – chopping is time-consuming. You’ll need some patience. But it’s an important part of the process, so take your time and do it right.

Juicing Process

Equipment

We use a Breville juicer, but swapped the small pitcher for a big jug that can hold enough for four 18oz bottles in one go.

Juicing Technique

  1. Juice everything into the big jug.

  2. Pour the juice into a container with a special lid that helps remove foam.

  3. Only fill it with about 1000ml of juice to leave room for the foam separator lid.

Adding Oils & Vitamins

Why Add Oils?

During a juice fast, you’re not getting any fat unless you add it in:

  • Hemp seed oil: Full of omega 3, 6, 9

  • MCT oil: Quick energy boost

  • Vitamin D3: You can never have too much of this!

How to Add It Right

Always add oil per bottle, not to the whole batch:

  1. Pour oil into the bottom of the bottle

  2. Add your juice

  3. Shake well before drinking

Warning: If you add the oil after the juice, it’ll overflow

Bottling & Storing the Juice

Most Important Tip

Fill the bottle to the very top before sealing – this pushes out air and keeps the juice fresh longer.

Label Everything

We prep juice for both tonight and tomorrow morning, so I always label:

  • Which bottles have hemp oil

  • Which ones don’t
    Remember:

  • Hemp oil: 1 serving per person/day

  • MCT oil: 3 servings per person/day

Bonus Juice: Carrot Pineapple

Besides the Pineapple Green Colada, we also love this beginner-friendly juice:

  • Carrots

  • Pineapple

  • Parsley

  • Kale

Carrots are naturally sweet and perfect for first-timers!

Tips for Beginners

Managing Blood Sugar?

Try 80% leafy greens, 20% fruits – this keeps the natural sugars lower.

Short on Time?

If you’re in a big city like LA, there are plenty of fresh juice shops. Even here in Cincinnati, we’ve found some great ones. Grab juice on the go when life gets busy!

Final Thoughts

Juice fasting is a vital part of our wellness journey. It’s not just about detoxing – it fuels our bodies with the right nutrients, including enough protein to support an active lifestyle.

Be patient with the prep, invest in high-quality organic ingredients, and don’t forget the oils and vitamins!

Happy juicing, y’all
