Does Darius Look More Like Me or His Dad?

Does Darius Look More Like Me or His Dad?

On Weight and Comfort
While filming with my son, I honestly felt comfortable opening up about myself. When my butt started to hurt a little after sitting for a while, I simply shared that it was because of my current weight – around 35 [weight units]. I didn’t feel embarrassed or negative about it.

Darius always gets concerned when I bring up my weight, but I explained to him that I’m not putting myself down. I’m just stating a fact – my body is carrying this weight, and sometimes it feels uncomfortable when I sit too long. That’s normal.

When I said I used to be a “cute 15” and now I’m a “cute 35,” I was emphasizing the word cute – because I still see myself as fine at my current weight. Handsome and cute are both positive words I use to describe myself.

On Appearance and Family Resemblance
Another fun topic Darius and I talked about was who looks like who in the family. I said that Darius definitely looks more like his dad, but he also has some features from me.

Breaking it down:

  • Nose: I’d say that’s his dad’s nose, not mine.

  • Lips: Definitely from his dad.

  • Jawline: Could be both mine and his dad’s.

  • Cheekbones: I’m confident those came from me.

  • Eyebrows: I had to defend my husband’s honor when Darius joked that his dad doesn’t have eyebrows!

On “Serving” (Looking Good) Daily
When Darius asked me if I think I look good, I answered honestly: it depends on the day. Some days I “serve” (look good), and some days I don’t.

On the day we filmed, when Darius asked me what I was “serving,” I joked that maybe it was “side salad” or “tap water” – meaning not my best look. But I also said that with a change of outfit, maybe tomorrow I’d “serve” better.

On Confidence
What I really want to express through these conversations is confidence and self-acceptance. I don’t shy away from talking about my weight or appearance, but I also don’t tear myself down.

When Darius worried that I was speaking negatively about my weight, I explained that it’s not self-hate – it’s just me acknowledging reality while still loving myself. Being honest about your body doesn’t mean you lack confidence.

I think it’s important to teach my son that women can talk about their bodies openly without shame, while still holding on to self-respect and self-love.
