Blove Shared: Shannon – My Sister
Today, I’m so happy to introduce y’all to my sister, Shannon. She’s right here with me, and this is actually her first time ever trying a veggie burger!
Life in Iowa
Shannon lives in Waterloo, Iowa, which—according to her—“ain’t got much going on.” And honestly, I get it. It’s hard to find vegetarian options or stores like Trader Joe’s around there. The nearest one is at least an hour or two away.
She often complains that there aren’t any good seafood restaurants in Iowa. When she asks the locals where to go, they always say Red Lobster, but Shannon’s like, “Red Lobster ain’t real seafood—and it’s expensive too!”

Proud Auntie Moment – Her Daughters
The reason Shannon’s here is because my nieces—her girls—just competed in a track and field tournament. And I’m so proud to say this was their very first year running track, and they already made it to the Junior Olympics in North Carolina!
Her 12-year-old daughter ran the 400m and even did hurdles. Those girls are tall, long-legged, and almost as tall as their mama! People in North Carolina thought her daughter was 20 years old!
But behind those achievements, Shannon has sacrificed a lot. Every week, she drives to Des Moines—a total of 4 hours round trip—for her daughters to compete. On top of that, they train 3–4 days a week. She said she’s happy the season’s finally over so she can get a break. But guess what? Her daughter’s about to start volleyball in October!
Her Gorgeous Sister Locks
One thing I absolutely love about Shannon is her Sister Locks. I didn’t even know what Sister Locks were before, but when I saw them on her, I thought they were beautiful and so classy!
Shannon says maintaining them is super easy. Sometimes she twists them up before bed, but now she just throws on her sleep cap. In the morning, she sprays a little rose water, shakes it out, and she’s good to go! She calls it “hair freedom.”
Shannon has 4B hair type, and she knows exactly how to take care of it. She explained to me about porosity—hers is low porosity, which means her hair doesn’t absorb products easily. So, she warms them up before applying.
Her Talent and Dreams
Shannon is incredibly talented when it comes to doing hair. I always tell her she needs to move out of Iowa and go somewhere like Houston or Atlanta, where her skills would truly shine. Staying in Iowa just feels like her talent is being wasted there.
Her Upcoming YouTube Channel
And here’s the exciting part—Shannon’s about to launch her own YouTube channel! She wants it to be a lifestyle channel, not stuck under one label. She’ll be sharing her lock journey, family vlogs, and lots of moments from her everyday life.
Right now, she’s choosing between two names: “Locked in with Shannon” or “Vibes with Shane.” Personally, I love “Locked in with Shannon” because it connects with her locks and also symbolizes being “locked in” with her life and experiences.
On her channel, she’ll share hair tips, product advice, and how to care for different hair types. She’s even planning a trip to New Orleans for her upcoming birthday—that’s gonna make some amazing vlog content!
Looking Ahead
Shannon is also planning to move out of Iowa soon. She’s lived in the Midwest her whole life, dealing with freezing winters—temperatures dropping to -7 or -10 degrees, and snow piling up 20–23 inches high! That’s why she’s got that thick Canada Goose coat to survive the cold!
She plans to visit different cities during both winter and summer to see what the weather’s really like. With two daughters, she’s being careful—checking out crime rates, school systems, and neighborhood safety before making any decisions.
Big cities have more opportunities, but they also come with big changes—like having to drive 30 minutes just to get anywhere! Still, I know Shannon’s ready for this next chapter, and I can’t wait to see where her journey takes her.
