Our Community – Why Do We Tear Each Other Down

Our Community – Why Do We Tear Each Other Down

There was a time when it used to bother me deeply. I would lie awake at night wondering why, in our own community, we seem to have such a hard time lifting one another up. Why is it that, so often, we tear each other down instead of offering support, kindness, or even just silence?

Now, before I go any further, let me be clear: I am not talking about all Black people. I know there are many of you who genuinely support me, who show me love, who understand my heart and see my intentions—and I thank you from the bottom of my soul. I see you, I feel you, and I appreciate you. So please know, this message is not for you.

But to be honest, there’s a pattern I can’t ignore. Within our own community, there is far too much tearing down. It’s disheartening. I live my life simply—I eat, I laugh, I shop, I work, I sell clothes, I mind my business—and still, negativity finds its way to my doorstep. And I can’t help but ask: why?

Why do some people go out of their way to tear down others who are simply trying to live their lives in peace? I don’t go around judging people. I try to assume the best in others. I lead with love, and my heart is good. I don’t create drama. I don’t stir the pot. And yet, there are people who will invent stories, twist the truth, or post entire videos aimed at discrediting someone else—all for a few likes, a penny, a moment of attention.

And if the content was positive, encouraging, or even constructive, maybe I could understand it. But when it’s dripping with bitterness and designed to hurt... that's when it crosses a line. What’s the point? What do you truly gain from being that cruel?

I’ve realized I can’t, and won’t, match that energy. I don’t have it in me. My spirit doesn’t operate in darkness. I don’t have the desire to return that same negativity back into the world. That’s not who I am. That’s not the kind of woman I was raised to be.

Sadly, I’ve come to accept that some people are truly struggling inside—whether it's with mental health, with pain they haven’t healed from, or simply because they are deeply unhappy with themselves. And then there are others whose hearts have grown cold, numb, and distant. The Bible says in the last days, the hearts of many will wax cold. People will turn against one another—even against their own families. And more and more, I see signs of that becoming our reality.

We are living in those times, and it’s heartbreaking. But I’ve also come to a place of peace. I don’t let it consume me like it used to. Now I just look at it and say, “Wow. This is really happening.” And then I pray, stay grounded, and keep doing what I know is right.

Because at the end of the day, love will always outlast hate. And no matter how much negativity comes my way, I choose to remain who I am—grounded in love, purpose, and truth.
