A Surprising Result
Darius just got his DNA test results back and guess what? This boy has 51% of his genes from his dad and 49% from me! That means he’s exactly 0.11% more like his dad than me!
"I'm more dad than I am my mom," Darius said proudly. And I have to admit, it explains a lot about his personality!
The Family Plan
Now, I’ve decided to get DNA test kits for the whole family. I want to buy one for my mom, one for my husband, and one for myself. We’ll all get to see who resembles who the most in our family!
The fun part is — I even convinced my mom to take this test. At first, she was a little skeptical, but I had to “dumb it down” for her. I told her: “Mama, they tell you if you going to have a happy smile, how long you going to live.” And she said yes!
The Grandma Challenge
But there’s one person in my family who will never agree to take this test — and that’s Darius’s grandma! She has some… let’s just say unique ideas about the government and personal data tracking.
She once told me not to take her picture and post it online because “the govern-ment gonna get me.” She even claims she’s in a witness protection program!
“She be lying, she you be doing too much,” I often tell Darius about his grandma. But honestly — she’s serious about it!
Funny Memories
I remember once when we went to Applebee’s, she flat-out refused to take a group picture. She said: “You can’t post nothing of me, I can’t be on the internet, the govern-ment gonna get me.”
Moments like that just make me shake my head and ask: “Grandma, why can’t we even take a picture together?”
A Special Meaning
For me, DNA testing isn’t just about seeing who looks like who. It’s a way for our family to learn more about each other, our roots, and little fun facts we might never discover otherwise.
Now that Darius has moved to Chicago to live on his own, family connections like this mean even more. No matter if he’s 51% his dad’s genes — I’m still the mom who raised and loved this boy all these years!
And who knows, maybe when I get my results, I’ll find out Darius and I have more in common than we thought!
