The General Checkup
I have a routine appointment coming up—a full general checkup with my doctor, including bloodwork and all the other necessary procedures. I have to admit, days like this always make me a little nervous. Not because I’m afraid of the doctor or anything, but mainly because I know it’s going to be what I call a “down day.” After the checkup, I usually feel pretty drained.
The Bloodwork Concern
What worries me the most is the blood test. I don’t know why, but every time they draw blood from me—even just a small vial—I end up feeling weak afterward. Maybe my body is just more sensitive to losing blood than most people.
Darius also had bloodwork done recently, and they had to draw two or three vials from him. That made me wonder—why do some people need more vials of blood than others for the same kinds of tests? If anyone watching this happens to be a doctor or has medical knowledge, please let me know the reason!
I always ask my doctor to check everything—from A to Z, as I like to say. I want to know my full health status so I can take the best care of myself.
The Postponed Dermatology Appointment
Besides the general checkup, I also need to reschedule an appointment with my dermatologist. As I mentioned before, I missed my last appointment, and now I have to wait to get another slot.
The frustrating part is that they wanted me to go to a building I didn’t recognize, something called “Dermatology,” and the building didn’t even have a proper sign on it. Darius’s dad even joked that it might be a scam! But after double-checking, I realized it really was the appointment I had booked three months ago—I just completely forgot about it.
And that’s why I now have to wait another three months for a new appointment. Dermatology waitlists are no joke—if you miss your slot, you’re right back at the end of the line.
Advice for You All
From my experience, I want to remind y’all of a few things:
-
Always write down your appointments – Don’t just rely on memory like I did. Put it in your phone calendar and set a reminder alarm.
-
Prepare yourself mentally for checkup day – Know that you might feel tired afterward, especially after bloodwork.
-
Don’t be afraid to ask your doctor questions – If you’re unsure about tests or results, speak up. It’s your right.
-
Double-check appointment details – If something feels off, like an unfamiliar address, call and confirm instead of skipping.
I’ll keep you updated once I get my results. Hopefully, everything goes well and I’ll have some positive news to share!
