Last December, my world shifted when my sister was diagnosed with breast cancer. Many of you didn’t know about it, and truthfully, it was a shock to all of us. None of us expected it. She didn’t expect it. I didn’t expect it. It felt like life had blindsided us.
It all began in October when she told me she had found a lump in her breast. At first, she assumed it might just be another cyst, since she had experienced something similar before. Even her doctor seemed to dismiss it, suggesting it was probably nothing serious. But when she noticed the lump growing, she returned for further testing. By December, the diagnosis came back: breast cancer.

The news hit us like a storm. We were devastated, angry, and confused. How could this happen? We had always talked about prevention, about taking care of ourselves. And yet, here we were. Immediately, I tried to support her in every way I could. I gave her sour soap, black seed bitters, apricot seeds, herbal remedies—anything I thought might help strengthen her body while she faced this battle.
In March, she underwent surgery, and thank God, the results came back clear. Today, she is cancer free. Those words still bring me so much relief. After months of fear, tears, and uncertainty, to finally hear “cancer free” felt like the heaviest weight lifted off our shoulders.
This journey reminded me of how quickly life can change. Just last New Year’s, my sister was celebrating with me. By the time this year came around, she was in the fight of her life. It all happened so fast. At first, she was only dealing with stomach issues—GERD, constant discomfort. Then suddenly, cancer. And it’s not just her. Nate’s aunt went through the same thing: stomach problems first, then cancer. Sadly, she didn’t survive. It makes you wonder—could there be a connection?
Through it all, what surprised us most was that my sister lived such a healthy lifestyle. She worked out four to five times a week, made thoughtful choices about what she ate, and took care of her body. Yes, she had her occasional indulgence, but overall, she was consistent with her health. And yet, cancer still came. It showed us that while lifestyle matters, it doesn’t guarantee immunity.
Now, she’s preparing for breast reconstruction surgery this month, and we’re all excited for her to take this next step in her healing. Seeing her recover and reclaim her life has been one of the biggest blessings of my year.
As for me, I’ve become more intentional about prevention. I take black seed bitters and sour bitters daily. I know people sometimes laugh at how many natural remedies I use, but I believe they make a difference. They cleanse, detox, and support my gut health. And honestly, I feel stronger because of it. My vital signs are good, my body feels balanced, and I thank God every day for that.
If there’s one thing this experience has taught me, it’s that life can change in an instant. Don’t take your health for granted. Don’t take your loved ones for granted. Be grateful, be proactive, and take care of yourself now—because tomorrow is never promised.
