Y’all, let me tell you about watermelon. You know, I’m sitting here enjoying this delicious seafood boil, and suddenly all these memories about watermelon come flooding back. Did y’all know that watermelon actually has its own season? Unlike corn, which we can eat all year round, watermelon is a whole different story.
I remember wondering why we could buy watermelon year-round, but there’s still that one special season for it. And honey, if you buy watermelon in the winter—lord have mercy—it’s a total disaster! No sweetness at all, just watery like diluted juice. You’ll find the worst watermelon of your life then. Watered down, exactly like that!

But in the summer—oh baby—that’s when watermelon shows its full glory. I think summer is the absolute best time to enjoy it. And you know where I’ve had the sweetest watermelon ever? Right from those watermelon trucks!
Y’all might not be old enough to remember, but those in my generation surely recall those trucks loaded with watermelon. My grandma used to take me there every weekend. We’d pick the prettiest watermelon, and the best part—they’d cut a small slice so you could taste it before deciding to buy.
Baby, those were the golden days! For real. We just don’t have experiences like that anymore. I haven’t seen a watermelon truck in ages. Maybe they still exist somewhere, but I haven’t come across one.
Do y’all know where they are? Hm, where did those watermelon trucks go? “Hey, where them watermelon trucks at?”—I wish that phrase was shorter so it could be a catchy tune. “Hey, where trucks at?” sounds better, but still a bit long for a jingle.
I truly miss those memories. The weekend trips with grandma, carefully choosing each watermelon, and the joy of tasting that perfect sweetness before buying. Those were simple yet deeply meaningful moments, back when life was slower and we had time to savor every little detail.
Now, every time I eat watermelon, I think of those days. And I hope somewhere out there, there are still trucks loaded with sweet, juicy watermelon, and kids going with their grandma to pick one out and taste it first. Because that’s how life should be—sweet, simple, and full of love.
Y’all, what do you think about these memories from Blove? I’d love to hear your thoughts down in the comments.
