We want to take a moment to reflect on our son Darius’s recent video, where he bravely spoke about his sexual orientation.
From the very beginning, we’ve known about this part of his journey and have stood beside him with love and encouragement. For us, it has always been clear that every individual deserves the right to discover who they are, and to express it openly when they feel ready. No one should ever be rushed, silenced, or judged for living in their truth.

What touched us most about Darius’s video was not only his honesty but also the way he presented it. His creativity shines through—his editing, his storytelling, and the way he captured details of his experiences. For example, hearing him describe his very first crush in such an open and heartfelt way gave us insight we had only glimpsed before. It was both moving and eye-opening as parents.
But beyond the technical beauty of the video, there is a larger message we want to emphasize. Being a parent means loving your child without conditions. Sadly, we know many families—especially those deeply rooted in strict religious traditions—who react with anger or rejection when their children come out. That response is devastating, and it is not the way love was ever meant to be.
We’ve seen the heartbreaking realities: too many young people forced out of their homes, left vulnerable, and some tragically caught in dangerous situations such as homelessness or even tr*fficking. These stories remind us that rejection can leave wounds far deeper than anyone realizes. Love should never be replaced with fear, shame, or cruelty.
To every parent reading this: we urge you to put yourself in your child’s place. Ask yourself how you would want to be treated if it were you. Prejudice will never outweigh compassion. Acceptance, empathy, and unconditional love are the foundation every child deserves.
Darius’s journey has not been an easy one. His road toward self-acceptance and the courage it took to share his truth have been filled with challenges. Yet through it all, we have prayed and trusted that God has a unique plan for him—one filled with purpose and light. We will continue to support him in every step he takes, in every path he chooses.
In his video, Darius not only shared his personal story but also brought in insights from science and his own reflections. It’s a powerful reminder that his journey is both deeply personal and universally meaningful. We encourage everyone to watch, listen, and learn from his words.
And so, we leave you with this: Love God. Love your family. Love others. Do so without judgment, without exclusion, and without fear. That is the true calling of love.
Until next time.
