Hey y’all, today I have to tell you a story that honestly shook us up. And no, this title ain’t clickbait — we actually got money stolen from our bank account!
How Nate Found Out
Y’all know my husband Nate — he’s super detailed when it comes to finances. He checks our bank accounts every single day, sometimes multiple times a day. Some people might think that’s a little over the top, but let me tell you — that habit saved us.
Every morning, Nate follows the same routine: he reads the news, checks the stock market (’cause we have a few investments), and then reviews all our bank accounts. He’s a numbers guy, so he always knows exactly how much should be in each account — what’s coming in and what’s going out.

The Panic Moment
That morning, when Nate logged into the account, he instantly noticed something was wrong. The balance was nearly $10,000 short! He looked through the transactions and found a $9,900 transfer to someone we had never even heard of.
Can you imagine? You wake up, having a normal morning, just checking your account — and boom, ten thousand dollars gone! Nate’s whole day flipped upside down in seconds.

The Fast-Track Fix
Nate called the bank right away. He had to find the right fraud hotline because there’s a specific one for these kinds of reports. The bank said it usually takes 6–7 weeks to get the paperwork through the mail, but if he went to a local branch, he could get it immediately.
So Nate rushed to the bank. Then they told him he needed a police report. Sounds simple, right? Nope! He ended up going to two or three different police stations. The first one said he had to go to the county office, then they told him to go to the station where the business was registered. It was a whole mess!

The Miracle
But here’s the good part — even though Nate was still in the middle of filing all that paperwork, the bank returned the $10,000 to our account in less than 24 hours!
Why? Because it was a business account. Business accounts have different fraud protection rules compared to personal ones. If it had been our personal account, the investigation could’ve taken weeks, even months. But with a business account, they acted fast.

Why I Didn’t Know Right Away
Now, here’s the funny part — Nate didn’t tell me about it at first. And I know what you’re thinking: “Why wouldn’t he tell you?!” But trust me, there’s a reason.
Nate knows me too well. If he had told me before the money was back, I would’ve panicked: “What are we gonna do? How do we get it back? Should we call someone?” I’d be spiraling! That’s not how he wanted to handle it.
So he waited until everything was resolved — the money was back — and then calmly said, “Babe, something happened, but it’s all taken care of. The money’s back in the account.” And I was just like, “Oh… okay!”
Some people might not agree with that, but that’s how we work. Nate knows he needs to fix the problem first, then talk about it once it’s done.

Why the Amount Was Under $10,000
Ever wonder why it was $9,900 instead of a round $10,000? That’s something Nate learned from watching American Greed (we love that show!).
Any transaction over $10,000 automatically gets flagged and reported to the federal government. So scammers often keep it just under that number — sneaky, right?

The Big Lessons
1. Check Your Accounts Regularly
Nate checks ours several times a day, and that’s how we caught it overnight. If he hadn’t, it could’ve taken weeks or months — and by then, it would’ve been so much harder to recover.
2. Set Up Alerts
After this, we tightened our security. We now get instant text or email alerts for every big transaction. If you haven’t done that yet — go do it now!
3. Know Your Account Types
Like I said, business accounts come with stronger protections. It’s something everyone should understand.
4. Don’t Keep All Your Money in One Place
We keep multiple bank accounts at different banks. Never put all your money in one spot!
5. Choose a Big Bank
If you have large balances, go with a major bank that offers 24/7 support. Don’t rely on a small local bank that’s only open during business hours. Nate was able to call right away — even on the weekend — and they handled it fast.

How We Felt
Even though we got the money back, we still felt uneasy. It’s scary realizing someone can just reach into your account and take what’s yours. We’ve watched tons of crime and fraud shows, but when it happens to you, it hits totally different.
I know many people have gone through worse — some even lost everything. We were lucky to catch it early and to have a business account.

Final Advice
Y’all, please stay alert with your bank accounts. Check them often. Set up transaction alerts. Don’t ever think “That won’t happen to me.” Because that’s exactly what we thought — until it did.
And if it ever happens, act fast. Call your bank immediately, go in person if you need to, file a police report — the quicker you move, the better your chances.
We really hope our story helps someone out there stay aware and protect their finances.

Stay safe, y’all!
Peace, love, and hair grease! 💕
