Why would you treat me like that?

Why would you treat me like that?

Y’all, let me be real with you about this whole social media thing. When you put your life out there for the world to see, you gotta understand — everything’s gonna come your way. The good, the bad, and the downright ugly. That’s just the truth, and nobody can escape it.

You Gotta Have Thick Skin

Listen, y’all. If you don’t have thick skin in this game, you won’t survive. Negative comments can drain your joy, make you feel depressed, and even stop you from creating content altogether. I’ve seen it happen to so many people.

But you know what? When you have a strong support system — your family and real friends who love you unconditionally — those hateful words can’t break you. They might sting for a moment, but they can’t destroy your spirit.

Understand What Comes With It

You have to realize, it’s never just one negative comment, y’all. Depending on how big your channel is, it could be 30, 100, or even more at once. That’s why some people can’t handle it — it becomes too much.

But remember this: nobody ever died from a mean comment. You’ve lived through people saying whatever they wanted about you before, and you’re still standing. So breathe, move on, and keep living your life.

Not All Comments Are the Same

Some people are just straight-up ignorant. They’ll say dumb things no matter what. Maybe because:

  • They weren’t raised right

  • They’re insecure about themselves

  • They’re dealing with something personal

  • Or they just like running their mouth

But there are others who truly mean well — people who offer real, constructive criticism. They’re respectful, thoughtful, and sometimes they’ll even email you privately because they don’t want to embarrass you publicly. That’s different. That’s love disguised as feedback.

The Real Problem

One negative comment can trigger a chain reaction — 30, 100, or more piling on. People jump in, add fuel to the fire, and it just snowballs. It can get overwhelming.

Why I Keep Going

Y’all, you have to love what you do to show up every day, to turn that camera on again and again. If you don’t have that love, you won’t last.

But me? I’m blessed. I have an amazing, supportive community, and honestly — I can’t even stay mad because:

  • I love this job!

  • I get paid to eat, y’all!

  • I get paid to talk to people!

  • I can speak my truth on my own platform!

  • And the money? It’s real good — real good.

Ain’t no other job in the world, I don’t care how high-paying it is, that lets you do what you love, say what you want, and get paid this well for it. So I tell myself, “Okay girl, take the good with the bad. It’s all part of the package.”

My Advice to You

If you want to do social media:

  • Be mentally ready for everything that comes with it

  • Build a strong support system

  • Remember, you’re not alone

  • Don’t let it mess with your mental health

  • Love what you do

  • Know when to take a break

I just came back from an 8-day trip to Jamaica, and it was amazing. I needed that break, and I don’t regret it one bit. In three more months, I’m taking another one!

You gotta be consistent, but you also gotta know when to rest, honey.
That’s how I deal with it all, y’all — and it works.

God bless, love y’all! 💛
