Childhood Memories – Life Back Then and Now
Y’all, sometimes I sit and think back on my childhood. I remember Howard Stern from when I was little – he was already famous back in the 1990s with 20 million listeners a day. Back in the day baby, back in the day when I was young.

I Don’t Want to Be a Kid Again
Listen, I ain’t no kid anymore, but there are days I sit and wish I could be a child again. But the truth is, I don’t really want to go back. We don’t move backwards, honey, we move forward, okay!
See, when you’re a kid, you don’t pay bills, you don’t worry about this or that. We thought we weren’t blessed, but let me tell you something – when you were a kid, when you were young, a teenager, you didn’t even realize how blessed you were. You were just so eager to leave home: “When I grow up, I’m getting my own house, my own car, my own everything!”
The Reality of Adult Life
But when you get your “own, your own, your own” – it comes with bills, bills, bills, bills, bills, bills! How you gonna pay these bills, bills, bills – all these bills? And then you’re like, “dang, these bills are adding up!”
That’s when you realize that when you were younger, you were living free, eating free, had heat for free, cooling down for free if y’all know what I mean. Everything was free! And yet we were complaining back then!
If I Could Go Back
If I could go back – I don’t wanna go back – but if I could and know what I know now, baby I’d be like, “Mom, yes ma’am! What you need mama? Anything you need, I’m gonna be the best I can be, okay!” And I would’ve enjoyed that borrowed life.
I call it the borrowed life. I tell my kids all the time: “Honey, you’re on borrowed money, borrowed food, borrowed everything, because right now you’re living under my roof. But when you step out there on your own, ain’t no more borrowed life. That’s gonna be your own life – you’ll have your own bills, your own everything to handle.”
“Borrowed Life” – Living on What’s Provided
Cuz mama and dad, we’re gonna be gone one day, we ain’t always gonna be here… it’s gonna fall on you. I don’t say “borrow” like you literally borrowing from us, but it’s like – you’re staying under this roof, and we’re paying for everything to keep you comfortable.
You get clothes, brand new clothes, shoes, and whatever else you need – we provide it. Okay, we’re providing, okay!
That’s why when you’re a teenager you think, “I can’t wait to move out, I can’t wait to get my own place.” But once you get your own place, you realize, “Oh wow, I had it made back then!”
A Message for Parents and Young People
I always tell my kids: “Y’all are on borrowed time, borrowed money, borrowed everything, because right now you’re living comfortable under this roof, and we’re handling it all.”
But one day, when they step out into the real world, they’re gonna understand. They’ll appreciate what we’ve done and realize that being a kid, living at home, having everything provided – that was truly a blessing.
So to all the young people out there – appreciate the stage you’re in right now, because trust me, when you’re out here on your own and those bills start rolling in, you’re gonna miss those days when everything was taken care of for you!
That’s real talk, y’all. That’s just real talk.
