Why Does Delicious Food Make Us Lose Control So Scarily?

Hello, my beautiful friends! It’s your girl Bloveslife back again, and today I want to get real with you about something so many of us deal with but don’t always talk about out loud.

Now let me say this right up front – don’t anybody come at me with “just control yourself” or “just push the plate away.” Uh-uh! No, ma’am, no sir! Because when I say it’s hard, I mean it’s REALLY hard. This isn’t about being weak, this is about being human.

See, the people who have never had that tug-of-war with food love to throw around advice like, “Just say no,” or “Just stop eating.” And honestly? If you haven’t lived through it, if you’ve never felt food call your name in the middle of the night like a song you can’t get out of your head – hush it up, baby. Don’t judge what you don’t understand.

I watch shows like My 600-lb Life, and the comments people leave break my heart. “They just need self-control.” “They should stop eating this or that.” Let me tell you something: it’s never that simple. Temptation is EVERYWHERE. And when you’re a true foodie, the smell of fried chicken or the sight of cheesecake doesn’t just sit there politely. No, it calls you, it pulls at you like a magnet, and sometimes, it wins.

And let’s be real – who wants to eat rabbit food for the rest of their life? Lettuce leaves and plain carrots? Come on now! Food is joy. Food is culture. Food is connection. It brings families together, it changes moods, it even heals broken spirits at times. So no, life is not about depriving yourself completely. Life is about balance – enjoying without drowning.

I once watched Fit to Fat to Fit, where fitness trainers purposely gained weight to understand their clients. And y’all, the way those trainers lit up when they got to eat freely again? They said it was like finally tasting life. For years they were counting carbs, tracking protein, saying no to celebrations – and they realized they weren’t living. That experiment gave them compassion, and it reminded me that food isn’t the enemy. It’s how we approach it that matters.

But here’s my real truth: part of my struggle lately comes from this affiliate marketing life. I gotta test out snacks, sweets, chips – things I normally wouldn’t even buy. And once sugar hits your system? Oh, baby, your body screams for more. It’s like, “Gimme, gimme, GIMME!” And the worst part? When you have a house full of snacks, you feel guilty throwing them away, so you just keep eating.

That’s why I decided this July, at my big Independence Day pool party, everything is leaving my house. All those snacks? Outta here! I’m handing them out to friends, neighbors, anybody who shows up. Because I know my triggers, and I refuse to let them win.

At the end of the day, though, I still feel blessed. I feel healthy, I feel grateful, and I know this one truth: we only get one life. Just one. And that life is happening right now. So maybe the answer isn’t about perfect control. Maybe it’s about living, loving, laughing, and yes – enjoying a Culver’s burger every once in a while without shame.

So I wanna ask you – do you struggle with food control too? How do you balance it? Share your truth with me in the comments, because I know I’m not alone in this.

Always, always remember: Put God first in everything you do.
